THE Democratic Youth Forum staged a demonstration today in Jurachari in protest against the killing of Chizimoni Chakma and his two-year old daughter Orki Chakma on 13 April.
Speaking at a rally, president of DYF Jurachari unit, Maha Ranjan Chakma and its general secretary Priti Bikash Chakma condemned the killing and urged the government go bring those responsible to justice.
They also urged the people to resist Santu Larma and his criminal gangs who have derailed from the struggle and are now engaged in the killing of their own fellow Jumma brothers and sisters.
“Peace and unity among the Jumma people is a far cry, if we fail to resist Santu Larma, the man who has initiated the bloody conflict.” Maha Ranjan said.
He told chtnews.com that the army had threatened them not to stage the demonstration, saying it would go against the interest of the state.
“A group of army men came to us and said: ‘You must not hold the demonstration.’ They also threatened us with arrests if we disobeyed them.” Maha Ranjan added.
The commander of Banajogichara zone also reportedly phoned and gave similar threats to Rup Kumar Chakma, vice chairman of Jurachari Upazila.
