BGB commander holds meeting with Santu group men

RELIABLE sources said the Commanding Officer of Border Guards Bangladesh Baghaichari Battalion, Lt. Col. Monir Hossain, held a secret meeting with a group of JSS (Santu faction) members today.

The meeting reportedly took place in the afternoon at Chintaram Chara camp of the BGB.

Lt. Col. Monir went there in a jeep at 3pm, sources said.

The JSS (Santu faction) members present at the meeting were Pritish Chakma, president of JSS Baghaichari Unit, its general secretary Baro Shishi Chakma, Nanda Chakma, Abishkar Chakma and Barun Chakma.

The last four are members of the armed group. Of them, Barun Chakma is reportedly involved in a number of killings, while Abishkar Chakma participated in the 13 Arpil killing of Chizimoni Chakma and his two-year old daughter Orki Chakma.

It is not known what was discussed in the meeting.

However, it is now an open secret that the government and its various agencies are providing crucial support to the Santu group to sustain the intra-Jumma conflict.
