A MEMBER of Dumdumya Union Council in Jurachari Upazila under Rangamati district, held hostage by Jana Samhati Samiti (Santu faction), has been released from captivity after a Taka 50,000 ransom was paid.
The hostage, Mr. Shubhoraj Chakma, was set free at 2pm today.
The 60-year-old was held hostage after JSS men took him from Fakirachara bazaar on 10 December, telling him that they had something to discuss with him.
The next day the miscreants demanded Taka 100,000 from his wife for his release and asked her to pay the money by 13 December.
His wife today contacted the hostage takers, who finally agreed to free him for Taka 50,000.
Mr. Chakma is an elected member of Dumdumya Union Council and a resident of Kandebochara village.
